Policy Planning Consultations

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – “MIKTA is a cooperative framework of middle powers which is becoming increasingly important. The policy planning consultation provides a platform for MIKTA to develop a joint strategy based on research and data,” said Dr. Yayan GH Mulyana (Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Foreign Policy Strategy Agency) as the chair of the 4th MIKTA Policy Planning Consultation (4th MIKTA PPC) on 11 May 2023 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

 

In 2023 Indonesia will take on the role of coordinator of the MIKTA cooperation forum (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye and Australia). MIKTA PPC is an annual consultation forum for Foreign Policy Strategy Agencies of MIKTA countries.

The 4th MIKTA PCC was opened by the Director General for Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, who emphasized, “As the Chair of MIKTA, Indonesia is committed to expanding MIKTA cooperation in order to increase its presence, and ensure real contributions in solving global challenges”.

The 4th MIKTA PPC meeting discussed regional and global trends, such as the creative economy, economic recovery, and inclusive digital transformation. Discussions were also held to encourage innovation and collaboration, among others, to strengthen civilian capacity in global peace missions, UN Security Council reforms, and mediation efforts to resolve conflicts.

On the sidelines of the 4th MIKTA PPC, the delegates had the opportunity to experience Yogyakarta’s culinary and cultural riches first-hand when they were hosted by the Deputy Governor of DIY, Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Aryo Paku Alam X at Bangsal Kepatihan. In the local context, this activity is expected to encourage MIKTA’s concrete cooperation in the creative economy, investment, and digital transformation.

MIKTA has the potential to become a bridge between developed and developing countries, and countries in the regions. MIKTA plays an increasingly important role in today’s geopolitical and geoeconomic dynamics.
