The First MIKTA Senior Officials’ Meeting (Seoul, February 27, 2015)

The inaugural MIKTA Senior Officials’ Meeting took place in Seoul, the Republic of Korea on 27 February, 2015. Foreign Minister H.E. Yun Byung-se addressed senior officials and ambassadors from the Foreign Ministries of Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey, Korea and Australia(MIKTA).

This was the first time that senior officials from the five MIKTA countries had come together for a dedicated meeting, following four successful ministerial meetings since MIKTA ministers first met in New York in September 2013. The purpose of the event was to take stock of progress to date, to discuss future activities, and to prepare for the upcoming MIKTA Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in retreat format in Korea in mid-2015.

Officials discussed ways to step up cooperation among MIKTA countries on a range of bilateral and multilateral issues, building on the already burgeoning cooperation among MIKTA countries. They also exchanged views on ways to establish networks of think tanks and academics in MIKTA members; to facilitate close cooperation among business communities; to advance common positions among MIKTA members in multilateral forums; and to further youth and student exchanges between our countries.

Officials praised the Republic of Korea for the excellent organization of the event and reaffirmed their commitment to actively contribute to the success of the next MIKTA Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
