MIKTA Meeting on Migration and Refugees (16-17 May 2017, Istanbul)

The meeting on migration and refugees within the framework of Turkey’s MIKTA Chairmanship was held on 17 May 2017 in Istanbul with the participation of representatives from MIKTA countries, as well as the UNHCR and the IOM. The participants discussed the current situation of migration and refugees, their own policies and experiences on these issues, and the potential of migrants to development of both home and host countries as well as rising discriminatory trends towards migrants and refugees.

Being aware of the importance of international cooperation in overcoming global challenges on these issues, participants highlighted the importance of processes of the Global Compact on Migration and the Global Compact on Refugees. They also revealed their intention to cooperate on the preparations of both Global Compacts.
